You become who you meet!
A
couple of years ago, someone I knew whose-in my opinion- most deeds were
imprudent, immature and lacked my standards of morals; wrote a status which
meant that a person is a sum of all the people he has met in his life.
I
do believe it's very true, I would, however, add to it the books we read, the
movies or series we watch and of course the usual events we experience in life!
Or anything that deeply stirs our emotions even if it only existed in our subconscious.
I
was blessed to meet wonderful people in my life, and being aware of their
influence on me, I will always be willing to go and tell them how they affected
me. I would thank and praise them; this doesn't mean at all that I think so
highly of them to the point that I owe them my awakening. Nay, what I strongly
believe in is that Allah sends people to one's path to open his/her eyes to
something that had been right there dormant inside his soul! Whom I actually
owe to, and whom I am always grateful to is Allah.
So
by thanking and praising them, I in fact worship and praise Allah alone.
What
I have realized, is that people are too proud to tell someone he had a great
impact on him! As if it is something shameful and compromises one's self
esteem!
But
have you ever thought that by saying this to someone you'd be opening his eyes
to his true self? To his strength points and talents? So it's not really about
gratefulness, appreciation, or flattery to the person himself, you'll be
actually awakening him to who he really is, and encourage him to use this trait
and do more good to the others.
Last
but not least, I'd like to affirm on the importance of knowing oneself, it is
not easy, but it is the magical recipe guiding you to the art of living, and it
does affect wellness of the community. How would we be able to build an
affluent community if each individual is blind to his own identity? If each is
ignorant about his own self?
Worship
to Allah, love to all
Ruba
